THALE
State : Sachsen-Anhalt
District (Kreis) : Harz (until 2007 Quedlinburg)
Additions : 2003 Warnstedt; 2009 Altenbrak, Friedrichsbrunn, Neinstedt, Stecklenberg, Treseburg, Weddersleben; 2010 Westerhausen; 2011 Allrode
Official blazon
In Silber ein gezinnter blauer Turm mit spitzem goldbeknauften roten Dach und offenem Tor, über dem Tor belegt mit einem silbernen Schild, darin eine rote Hexe auf einem Besen reitend.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on July 11, 1996.
The tower symbolises the former castle of the Lords von dem Dale, who ruled and lived in the village. The small shield shows a witch on a broom. The Harz region is known for it's witch stories and the arms thus symbolise that the town is in the centre of the Harz region.
The previous arms were design and approved in 1956 and show the same tower. The small shield showed symbols for industry (cogwheel), mining (hammer) and forestry (tree).
