Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
WÖRRSTADT
State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) : Alzey-Worms (until 1969 Alzey)
Verbandsgemeinde : Verbandgsemeinde Wörrstadt
Additions : 1970 Rommersheim
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1960.
The oldest seals of the town are known since 1575. All seals show the patron saint, St. Lawrence, holding his symbol, the grill, in his hands.
In 1956 the arms below were proposed, in which the grill was held by two lions. The lions were taken from the Counts of the Rhein, who ruled the area in the Middle Ages. In 1960 the above arms were finally granted, with the lions looking backwards. The reason for this (small) change is not known.
