German heraldry:

Selected collector's items from Germany:

MITTELFRANKEN

State : Bayern

Wappen von Mittelfranken

Official blazon

  • (de)

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the arms of the three former territories to which the area belonged. The eagle is the eagle of the city of Nürnberg, the quartered shield is the arms of the Margraves of Nürnberg-Ansbach from the house Hohenzollern, and the points are the arms of Franken.

The arms of the Kreis Mittelfranken, which existed until 1945 were quite similar:

Wappen von Mittelfranken

These arms show the eagle of Nürnberg and the points of Franken.
