Origin/meaningThe arms were officially granted on December 18, 1987. The crosier is a canting element for the Bischoff (bishop) part of the name. The wavy bend symbolises the Aar river, which runs through the municipality, The scallop is the symbol of St. James and refers to the historical road of pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Spain (Jakobsweg). The previous arms were granted on April 26, 1957. These arms show a lion, symbolising the former rulers, the Counts of Solms and the Counts of Hessen, again with a crosier as a canting element.
