Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1953 and show a combination of symbols from the arms of the two noble families that played a major role in the local history. The key is derived from the arms of the Von Bovenden family, who had their estate in the town. The wall-anchor is taken from the arms of the Lords von Plesse, who ruled the town until 1571, when it became a possession of the Counts of Hessen.
