Origin/meaning
The arms show a city gate and tower, typical for medieval cities to put on their seals. Although Gemünden was mentioned as a city in the early 14th century, no seals are known until the second half of the 15th century. This seal shows the gate and tower, but not in a shield. As arms and in colour they are known since 1544.
The actual shape of the gate and tower has changed according to the style of the times, but otherwise the arms have never changed.
