German | In Silber wachsend eine bis zum oberen Turmgesims schwarz gefugte, zweitürmige rote Kirchenfront mit von rotem Ziegeldach bedecktem Kirchenschiff, darin ein schwarz gefasstes, von zwei schwarzen Rundbogenfenstern beseitetem offenem, blauem Portal, darin wachsend die Büste eines nimbierten goldenen jungen Heiligen; in den mit schwarzen Dreipassöffnungen spitzbedachten, grün beknauften Turmoberteilen je ein schwarzes romanisches Zwillingsfenster, erhöht um ein griechisches schwarzes Kreuzlein innerhalb des Außenbogens, alles mittig erhöht durch eine grünbespitzte, goldenbebutzte rote Rose
Origin/meaningWildeshausen became a city in the early 13th century and the oldest seal dates from the same time. The seal shows already the same composition as the arms : the local church with the rose of the arms of Count Burghard of Oldenburg-Wildeshausen and St. Alexander, the patron saint of the city. In the early 20th century the arms were devised and based on the oldest seal, as can be seen in the image below.
