- (1963) Gedeeld : 1, van azuur met drie sparappelen van goud, de punt omhoog, wat van de kapittel van de H. Omer is; 2, van goud met een leeuw van sabel, getongd van keel, met een schuinkruis van azuur over alles heen, wat van de kastelenij van Veurne is. Het schild geplaatst voor een H. Audomarus, rechtstaand, gemijterd, houdend in de rechterhand een kruis en in de linkerhand een staf, de kromming naar buiten, het geheel van goud.
- (1980) Gedeeld 1. in lazuur drie omgekeerde sparappels van goud 2. in goud een leeuw van sabel, getongd van keel, met een schuinkruis van sinopel over alles heen.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on July 29, 1963 and again on December 10, 1980.
The arms are identical, but in the present arms the supporter, St. Audomare (St. Omer), the local patron saint, has been removed, see image below. em
The three spruce cones are taken from the arms of the Chapter of St. Omaars, which owned the village already in the 7th century and kept most of the rights until 1793. In 1604 part of the rights were sold to the castellany of Veurne. The arms of the castellany were the lion of Flanders with a green cross.
In 1963 the cross was wrongly shown as blue, but in the new arms this was corrected. The arms of the castellany were granted by King Phlip II on May 21, 1561.
