Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on November 6, 1979.

The lion is taken from the arms of the Counts of Veldenz, who ruled the area for a long period of time. The lower half shows symbols for the agriculture and coal mining in the area. The colours of the lower half are also those of the Pfalz.

The division line is a canting element, Bach means brook or stream.
