Origin/meaning
The Free-State of Braunschweig was created in 1918 and existed until 1945. It was the successor of the Duchy of Braunschweig and now forms par t of Niedersachsen.
The arms show the horse of Niedersachsen, which was used widely in the region, even though it had no historical significance to the Free-State.
