ALPHONSE GALLEGOS

Born : 20 February 1931
Deceased : 6 October 1991

Auxiliary Bishop of Sacramento, 1981-1991

Arms of Alphonse Gallegos

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The white shield with the red chief dancetty suggest the snow-covered Sierra Mountains, prominent in the Sacramento Diocese. A triple-branched nettle refers back to the original coats of arms of the Gallegos family, while the seven leaves budding from the tree symbolize the seven sacraments.

The golden rose honors Our Lady of Guadeloupe; the two Aztec wings recall San-Miguel, patron of the family church in Watts (LA, California).
