Origin/meaning

Wustrow developed around the castle of the Lords of Wustrow and received city rights in the early 14th century. The oldest seal dates from around 1400 and shows already the above arms.

The arms are derived from the arms of the medieval Counts of Lüchow, their crest showed a helmet with peacock feathers, which is placed in the centre of the shield. In the 19th century the crest was often shown as a shining sun, but this has been restored.
