Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on May 23, 1938 and continued on December 20, 1972 and May 28, 2009.
The upper part of the arms show the lion of Jülich, as a large part of the district was ruled by the Counts of Jülich. The swan on the antler is taken from the former capital of the district, Burtscheid (now part of Aachen). It is the arms of the counts of Woestenraedt, who owned the city Burtscheid.
The new Städteregion Aachen has taken over all the tasks of the former district, as well as the arms of the former district.
