Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on October 1, 1996.
The orb is the symbol of the local patron saint, the Divine Saviour. The book refers to the schools and the seminary in the parish.
The broken chain refers to the fact that the Marquis of Sá da Bandeira was born and baptised in the parish. He was a main activist to abolish slavery and is buried in Santarém.
