The arms were granted on August 1, 1994.
The arms combine symbols from the arms of the former rulers in the district. The bends are the arms of the County and Counts of Schöneberg, the cross from the Meinheringer family, who ruled the County Hartenstein, the ring from the Wolkenstein Estate and the ion of the Counts of Meissen. The lion holds some tools that symbolise the mining in the area.
