In Silber eine rote Torburg mit drei gezinnten Türmen, deren mittlerer blau behelmt und mit einem von Schwarz und Silber geteilten Schild belegt ist; darin eine abgeschnittene Greifenklaue in verwechselten Farben.
Origin/meaning
The arms date from the 16th century.
Kissingen received city rights already before 1280. Unfortunately no seals are known prior to the 16th century. The oldest seal already shows the above arms, with a city gate and a small shield with the arms of the Counts of Henneberg, who had granted the city rights. All later seals and images have shown the composition, but the size and shape of the different elements has changed considerably during the centuries. The colours are known since the late 16th century.
