TREIS
State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) : Cochem-Zell (until 1969 Cochem)
Incorporated into : 1969 Treis-Karden
German | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms first appear in the oldest known seal of the town, dating from the early 15th century. The arms have never changed since. The star is most likely the symbol for the town itself, the key is the symbol of St. Peter, the patron saint of Trier, to which the town belonged since 1294. The fleur-de-lis is the symbol for St. Mary, the patron saint of the local church.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
