In Blau zwei zugekehrte halbe silberne Flüge, belegt mit je einem roten Sparren Origin/meaningThe arms were granted on October 7, 1937. The arms are first seen on the local seal of Sparneck and Zell, which dates from the early 17th century. The wings are taken from the crest of the arms of the Lords of Sparneck, who had many large possessions in the area. The two chevrons on the wings are canting (Sparre=chevron). The arms were still used at the end of the 18th century, when the Lords of Sparneck were already extinct for some decades. In 1811 the arms of Sparneck were changed to a very complicated and unclear composition. In 1819 new arms were made for Sparneck and Zell. These arms showed a quartered shield of blue and silver, with in the second quarter in gold a red heart and in the third in red a golden heart. The division of the shield is derived from the quartered shield of the Margraves of Nürnberg, but the black fields were changed into blue, the colours of Bayern. The meaning of the hearts for the two villages is not known. These arms were used until 1937, when the old arms were restored.
