HMCS PRESERVER, ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY
Official blazon
Azure, alife preserver argent, cabled or, charged on the centre chief with a maple leafe slipped gules, and within the ring a star-burst also argent. / D'azure, à la bouée d'argent, càblé d'or, chargé au centre d'une feuille d'érable de gueules en pointe et dans l'anneau d'une étoile d'argent rayonne.
Origin/meaning
The life preserver is a rebus on the ship's name and with the maple leaf gains Canadian indentification. The starburst in the centre symbolises the flare that is automatically ignited when the life preserver hits the water.
Literature: Sent by the Canadian Embassy in Oslo.
