Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
OPPENAU
State : Baden-Württemberg
District (Kreis) : Ortenaukreis (until 1973 Offenburg)
Additions : 1974 Ibach, Lierbach, Maisach, Ramsbach
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1959.
The arms are based on the oldest seal of the city, dating from the 14th century. The seal showed a castle on a small hill. In the present arms the wheel replaced the hill and symbolises industry. The colours are derived from the colours of the State of Strasbourg, to which the city historically belonged.
Seal from around 1900 |
