In Blau ein aufgerichteter, hersehender goldener Löwe mit roter Zunge und Bewehrung.

Origin/meaning

The arms show the lion of the Counts of Schwarzburg, to which the city historically belonged. The crowned lion is already seen on the oldest, 14th century, seal of the city. During the early 20th century the arms have been shown in different colours and with or without crown, see below.
