GORNJI KNEGINEC
County : Varaždin
Official blazon
- (hr) U plavome zlatnu vagu nadvisuju dvije zlatne krune.
Origin/meaning
The municipality has had three different coats of arms since 1995.
The first arms were adopted on October 10, 1995.
The white toweг stands for the formeг fortress of Kneginec, оf which опlу one tower is pгeseгved. The hand with the scales repгesents the justice that Andrew II Arpad, King of Croatia and Hungary, showed toward Varaždin Ьу granting expanded гights in 1209, which also covered the current municipality.
The wheat and vine symbolize agricultuгe: the lowlands of the municipality аге convenient for grain pгoduction and the highlands аге a famous wine-pгoducing гegion.
This design was not approved by the Commission for Evaluation of Coats of Arms and Flags of Local Self-Govemment Units of the Ministry of the Interior, as it was too complicated.
In response the municipality adopted a new coat of arms on August 19, 1996, showing only the hand with the scales and a crown for the King.
The Committee again rejected the proposal, and these arms were never officially used.
In 2004 the municipality again started the procedure, now with the scales, but not the arm, and two crowns and in different colours. These arms were adopted by the municipality on July 16, 2004 and approved by the Ministry on July 2, 2005. These are the arms shown above.
