Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
THANNHAUSEN
State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Günzburg (until 1973 Krumbach)
Additions : 1977 Burg
Official blazon
In Blau auf grünem Boden ein silbernes Haus mit Ecktürmchen, auf deren roten Zwiebeldächern goldene Windfahnen wehen; vor dem offenen Tor eine grüne Tanne.
Origin/meaning
According to legend the arms were granted in the 15th century by Emperor Friedrich III, but no historical proof thereof exists. The oldest known seal dates from the 17th century and shows the above composition of pine tree (Tanne) and castle (for Hausen, house).
