Origin/meaning
The arms were officially adopted in 1998.
The arms show the eagle of Upper Silezia and Saint Barbara. Saint Barbara is the patron of miners and the city. Both elements weretaken from the old arms of Nowy Bytom.
The previous arms were designed in 1966 and show the Polish eagle with symbols for the mining industry in the area.
