(1818) Van zilver beladen ter regter zijde van een hennepen ter linker van een vlashalm, beiden van synople. (1913) In zilver beladen rechts met een hennep- en links met een vlashalm, beiden naast elkander geplaatst, groengestengeld en -gebladerd en eindigende, de eerste met eene zilveren bloem hellende naar rechts en de tweede met eene blauwe bloem omgebogen naar links. (1978) Gedeeld: 1. in zilver rechts een hennepstengel en links een vlasstengel, beide van sinopel, paalsgewijze geplaatst, de eerste eindigend met een bloem van zilver, hellend naar rechts, de tweede met een bloem van lazuur, hellend naar links; 2. in lazuur een schildhoofd [van zilver] beladen met zeven hermelijnstaartjes, 4 en 3.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 31, 1818 and confirmed on May 13, 1913. New arms were granted on July 28, 1978.

The current arms combine the old arms (see below) with the arms of Moerzeke.

The old arms show on the right half a branch of a hemp plant and on the left half a branch of a flax plant (with blue flower). Both were important crops in the early 19^th century. Hemp was used for ropes, flax for linen.
