Azure on Waves of the Sea in base proper a Ship of three masts tackled and rigged all Or on the fore and mizzen masts two Square Banners that on the first per pale Gules and Vert three Lions passant guardant in pale Or that on the latter quarterly one and four Argent a Lion rampant Purpure two and three Gules a Tower triple-towered Or on the Hulk of the Ship an Escutcheon per fesse Or and Gules, in chief three Chevronels also Gules in base three Lions passant guardant in pale also Or.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1592 and are based on the old seal of the borough of Melcombe Regis.

The two boroughs, Melcombe on the north shore and Weymouth on the south, were joined as a double borough in 1571, after which time the name Weymouth came to serve for them both.
