English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 13, 1938.

The oldest seal of Grömitz, dating from 1440, already showed the above arms. The arms indicate that the town at the time was ruled by the counts of Holstein (right half, the nettle leaf), and the Cismar Abbey. The patron saint of the abbey was St. John, whose symbol is the eagle. The above arms were officially granted in 1938 and are based on the oldest seal.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
