Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on March 31, 1964.
The bishop represents St. Lambertus, the church patron of Bremen since 1070.
The red bars in a golden field are the coat of arms of the von Fürstenberg family, whose ancestral home is near the town. This castle (Waterlappe) is symbolised by the division line.
