In Silber zwischen zwei zugewendeten Löwen als Schildhalter zwei übereinandergestellte Wappen: oben in einem kleineren roten Schild eine goldgekrönte silberne Säule; unten geviert von 1:4 Schwarz und 2:3 Gold, überdeckt von einem rot-silbern geschachten Balken
Origin/meaning
Römhild received city rights around 1300 from the Counts of Henneberg. The above arms were granted by Emperor Maximilian in 1498. The main shield shows the chequered bar used by the Counts of Henneberg as Vicounts of Würzburg. The small shield with the column on top shows the canting arms of the Italian Colonna family. The Counts of Henneberg claimed to be descendants of this family.
