Origin/meaning
The arms were not officially granted.
The bell is taken as a medieval symbol for the independence of a municipality. In medieval France each village had a bell, which could only be used in emergencies and which was operated by the mayor. The red bars represent the Gatineau and Outaouais rivers. The billets in the upper bar represent the wood-trains coming down on the rivers. Forestry is important in the area and the wood is transported via the rivers.
The motto, Ut aquae nostrae conjungamur (Let us unite, just as the waters), refers to the two rivers in the municipality and the different backgrounds of the citizens.
