UITKERKE
Province : West-Vlaanderen
Incorporated into : 1970 Blankenberge
Official blazon
D'argent, à la croix de sable chargée de cinq coquilles de Sint Jacques, d'or.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on April 14, 1842.
The arms are derived from the medieval Lords of Uitkerke. The arms are mentioned for the Lords of Uitkerke in the Gelre roll of arms, dating from the late 13th century. Other medieval rolls of arms also show the same arms. On a seal from 1339 from Johan van Huutkerke, the arms are shown in the first and fourth quarter of his arms, the other quarters showed a hunting horn. Later seals and images all showed the arms, either alone, or as a quartering.
Similar arms are used by the municipality of Zuienkerke.
