VILALBA SASSERRA

Region : Catalonia
Province : Barcelona

Escudo de Vilalba Sasserra

Official blazon

Escut caironat: d'argent, una serra de sinople i una guineu de sable passant posades en pal. Per timbre, una corona mural de poble.

Origin/meaning

These arms have been officially granted on 25th October 1984.

Canting arms: they show a wolf, reminding the ancient name of the village until the 15th century, Vulpelleres (derived from Latin "vulpes", wolf). Above, there is a saw, because Sasserra means in ancient Catalan "the saw" (and, at the same time, "the mountain range", what is the real meaning in this case: the village is placed at the north side of the Serra del Corredor).
