Origin/meaning

The arms show a ring and miner's tools. The ring is taken from the arms of the Lords von Waldenburg zu Wolkenstein, who granted the city rights in 1407. During the mid 20^th century the tools were added to symbolize the mining in the area. Until that thime the proper arms only showed the ring, but the city used larger armorial bearings with a mural crown and the miner's tools as a crest, see image below. On smaller seals, only the miner's tools were shown though.
