Origin/meaning

The arms are canting for the original German name of the city, Kreuzburg, or Cross-castle. The crosses are the crosses of the Teutonic Order, which ruled the city for many centuries. The arms are known as such since the 13th century. The above arms are based on the oldest seal, whereas Hupp showed a different version of the arms in the Kaffee Hag albums, see below.
