Origin/meaning

The arms are canting for the original German name of the city, Kreuzburg, or Cross-castle. The crosses are the crosses of the Teutonic Order, which ruled the city for many centuries. The arms are known as such since the 13^th century. The above arms are based on the oldest seal, whereas Hupp showed a different version of the arms in the Kaffee Hag albums, see below.
