LICHTENBERG
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on April 13, 1914.
The garb in the first quarter symbolises the importance of agriculture in the history of Lichtenberg (urbanisation started in the late 19th century). The wheel in the second quarter symbolises the industry, which developed rapidly in the early 20th century. The lower half is canting, showing a 'mountain with light'(Licht-light, Berg is mountain) on the banks of the Spree and the Rummelsburg Lake. On the original arms the base showed three small fish, for the importance of fishing in the river and lake, but these were soon replaced by waves.
