Arms: Per pale, dexter Or, a bend sinister Vert and thereon between two bendlets wavy Argent a bendlet wavy Azure; sinister, Gules, an orle Argent and over all a bend Ermine; and on a chief Azure a leopard passant proper. |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on February 20, 1968.
The leopard calls to mind the cliff-like and wooded nature of the country – the natural habitat of the leopard.
The colours on the left-hand side of the shield – gold and green – are indicative of the the health-giving sun and the verdant hills of Kloof respectively. The wavy bends symbolise the water courses and waterfalls
The remainder of the shield contains part of the arms of Richmond (Yorkshire) (England). It is included as the name of the farm on which Kloof was built was at one time called Richmond.
The swan is symbolic not only of the other Richmond upon Thames in Surrey (England), which aalso has a swan in the crest, but also of the quality of perfection.
