Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on April 7, 1975.

The arms are based on the historical arms of the Amt Ricklingen, to which most of the area historically belonged.

The previous arms were granted on December 22, 1966.

Wappen von Garbsen/Arms of Garbsen

These arms were designed after the merger with Havelse and combines elements from the arms of the former arms of Garbsen and Havelse.

The chimney is derived from the older arms of Garbsen and is a symbol for the chalk industry in the municipality. The hawk (Habicht) is a canting element for Havelse (which means hawk's wood, Habichtswald). The wall anchor is a symbol to show the unification of the two municipalities.

The oldest arms were granted on May 19, 1955.

Wappen von Garbsen/Arms of Garbsen

The chimney was already used as a symbol for the chalk industry. The pine tree and the wheatear refer to the (former) importance of forestery and agriculture. The urn in the base indicates the pre-historical finds in the municipality.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
