• (1818) Van blaauw waarop drie visschen van zilver balksgewijze boven elkanderen geplaatst boven dewelke een gouden kroon, het schild gedekt met een gouden kroon
• (1838) D'azur à trois poissons d'argent posés en fasce et surmontés d'une couronne d'or, l'écu timbré d'une couronne d'or
• (1980) D'azur à trois poissons nageant d'argent l'un sur l'autre. L'écu sommé d'une couronne d'or à trois fleurons séparés chacun par une perle

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on November 18, 1818 and confirmed on December 26, 1838 and again on September 9, 1980.

When the city applied for its arms it was mentioned that they had been in use for many centuries. Unfortunately there are no historical seals or images of the arms. The arms are most likely derived from the arms of the medieval Counts de Chiny, who used three trout in their arms. The crown probably symbolises the counts themselves.

The blazon from 1980 does not mention the crown in the shield itself, but the city does use the historical arms still.
