Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on March 16, 2020.
The municipality of Pahlen is located in the Dithmarschen district on the south bank of the Eider, symbolised by the wavy bar. The silver boat in the shield base is a reminder of the former importance of the old Eider Harbor in Pahlen. This was formerly the most important port on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein, on the old Eider Canal, the forerunner of the Kiel Canal.
The place name is derived from the plural of Pahl - "Pfahl", meaning "palisade, fortification". The three rounded rectangles refer to this.
The community is characterized by an extensive moors as well as meadows and pastures. The green refers to this type of landscape. The lapwing in the shield head is regarded as a characteristic bird of the area.
The arms were approved after a local contest with three designs. The designs only differed in the upper half; the lapwing, two stalks of reed, or a pile of bricks. The reeds also refer to the landscape, the bricks to the village and farms.
