Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 14, 1969.

The arms show a bishop with before him a small shield with the arms of the Von der Leyen family. The village was founded by the Hornbach Abbey, probably already in the 8th century, and became a possession of the Von der Leyen family in 1486. The bishop may refer to the monastery and would then be St. Pirminius.

The composition is known from a village seal on a document from 1564, but the seal may be older.
