Origin/meaning

The arms show the local church above a city wall. These arms are based on the oldest known seal of the city, which dates from the late 13^th century. Mellrichstadt received city rights in the early 13^th century. The first known use as arms and the colours are known since 1544. The colours changed in the 19^th century to blue and silver, the colours of Bayern. Since the late 19^th century the historical colours were restored.
