Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 8, 1960 and confirmed on October 8, 1974.

The arms are a combination of the lion of the Pfalz and the lions of the Counts of Wolfstein. The Counts of the Pfalz had many estates in the district, whereas the Counts of Wolfstein were Lords of Sulzbürg and Pyrbaum.
