Official blazon

En campo de azur, sobre peñas de su color, una torre de plata (que representa a la Torre de Hércules), mazonada y aclarada de sable, cubierta con un faro de gules, y acompañada de siete veneras de oro, puestas tres a cada flanco y una en punta; brochante sobre las peñas, una calavera de plata, coronada de oro, acolada a dos tibias del mismo metal puestas en aspa.

Origin/meaning

The town was founded long before Roman times. The arms show the tower of Hercules, a famous lighthouse in the city. The scallops are the badges of St. James (Santiago). A Coruña is close to Santiago de Compostela and many pelgrims came ashore in the harbour of A Coruña.
