Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on June 7, 1943.
The man on the horse is (by the legend) the Mycenic hero Achilles who died in the Troyan War, according to Homer. He alledgedly founded the city of Theti, named after his mother Thetis. In Roman times this became Theate and later Chieti. The motto also shows the Latin name of the city.
