Origin/meaning

The arms were officially registered on May 15, 2005.

The lower half symbolizes the Lagarfljót lake around which the municipality is situated. The largest herd of reindeer in the country also lives in the municipality, which is symbolized by the antler. The green field symbolizes the largest Icelandic forest and the green fields in the area.
