Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 21, 1996.

The wavy shield indicates the many waters in the parish. The lion with the palm leaf is the symbol of St. Mamede, the patron saint of the parish of Longos Vales and thus counting for the municipality.

The books symbolise the local schools and education. The ink pads symbolise the fact that the National Printing House is in the parish.
