TIELRODE

Province : Oost-Vlaanderen
Incorporated into : 1977 Temse

Wapen van Tielrode/Coat of arms (crest) of Tielrode

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 13, 1819 and slightly changed on August 16, 1844.

The arms are a combination of the keys of St. Peter, the local patron saint, and the beet of the Waasland region. For the history of the beet, see Sint-Niklaas.

In 1819 the keys were granted in black, which is against the heraldic rule of colour. So in 1844 the keys were made of gold.
