Origin/meaning
The complex arms show the family arm under a chief of the arms of Gurk. However, the arms of Gurk show a divided shield of red and silver, but on his seals and coins (see below), this field is often shown as silver with a red bar, or a smaller red bar on the lower silver field.
The family arms are quartered of Niedersalm (fish), Reifferscheidt (blue shield and label), Bedburg (silver lion on red with billets, see also Bedburg), Alfter (silver lion on barry of gold and red), and Hackenbroich (black lion on gold), with as inescutcheon Dyck.
