Official blazon

  • (1941) I av guld och rött styckat fält en upprest, svart grip med blå beväring, därest dylik skall komma till användning, och med båda framklorna bärande ett riksäpple av guld
  • (1968) Sköld, genom en uppåtriktad kil av guld, vari ett avslitet svart griphuvud med näbb och tunga röda, kluven i blått, vari ett krönt S:t Erikshuvud av guld, och i rött, vari ett riksäpple av guld.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1968 after the merger with the city of Stockholm

These are based on elements from the previous arms, with the addition of the arms of Stockholm.

The previous arms were officially granted in 1941.

Coat of arms (crest) of Stockholms län

The arms show the griffin of Södermanland holding the orb taken from the arms of Uppland. The shield is divided in the colours of the two former provinces.
