Escudo de Alpens/Arms (crest) of Alpens
Official blazon
Catalan Escut caironat: d'atzur, un mont de penyes d'argent movent de la punta sobremuntat d'un bàcul d'abat d'or posat en pal. Per timbre una corona mural de poble.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 2, 1991.

Canting arms: ethimologically, it's said that Alpens (a mountain village) is derived from "els pens" (Catalan for "the rocks", "the cliffs"). The mount of rocks on the arms symbolizes the Roca de Pena, an outstanding rock formation near the village. The crosier above alludes to the fact that Alpens was under the jurisdiction of the abbots of Ripoll. Literature:
